I guess you did throw caution to the wind. Great descent QOM!
Chip K.
Congratulations on a great ride and QOM! Must have been a wild descent.
Luke B.
We got the same time on that segment you QOM'd. Unfortunately I have to shave off almost a minute before anyone will notice ;)

Thanks Gregory & Chip! It *was* a wild descent, but only because I couldn't see - the fog was thick and my glasses were covered in drizzle. I kept having to wipe them off with my gloves! And Luke, yeah, I don't quite understand why women tend to, as a whole, be so much slower than men on descents. Most of my DH QOMs come while making sure I take a cautious, careful pace down a hill...

Actually I think most cyclists are bad on descents, regardless of gender. I had never ridden these roads before but dodging skittish riders was way riskier than the road itself!
They never have to learn counter steering, reference points, all the stuff you take for granted if you've raced motorcycles, so perhaps not surprising.
I got about an hour of GoPro footage so it will be fun to revisit some of that. The roads were generally beautiful!

Nicely done! So, looks like fog and drizzle is a repetitive thing every year on Levi GranFondo. Hope you enjoyed the ride.
Totally agree with Luke's statement - "dodging skittish riders was way riskier than the road itself!"
Reminds me of the Monitor Pass descent on Death Ride.
