  • 10 sleeps until the big day. This is mile 88 of Cascade Crest 100 (French Cabin) and I cannot wait to reach it. It is my cue that the rest of the race is down. From rolling single track through flowering meadows, technical descending or flat miles to the finish, I can handle it. 10 more sleeps. Tomorrow I fly to Seattle en route to the @Squamish50 this weekend and then I'm back to regroup with my crew next week in the emerald city. I cannot wait to start so I can be done building this up in my mind. 100 miles. Only 10 more sleeps.
  • I hope some outside adventures await you this weekend! #Seattle
  • Took me till my 30s to ride Dumbo. Never too late to do new shit. #ChurroTime #DoleWhipToo #NotAtVidCon
  • Here's a lovely story from today. It all started because I wanted to climb a mountain. In an attempt to get some good climbing in our legs, @kimberleydt and I set off to climb Mt. Wilson. By mile 2, after we had just scared off a curious bear cub, I started having weird anxiety. I figured it was lack of sleep and tired mind, but couldn't shake that something was off. At mile 4.5 we looked off at the view and saw the storm rolling in. We expected some rain today, but before I could put my phone into a ziplock, the monsoon had enveloped us. Within seconds the trail became a raging river 7-10" deep. We started racing down knowing full well we were in flooding/mudslide danger with how torrential the storm was. Rain anywhere else tends to pose zero problems, but in LA, after so long without it, mountains tend to suffer from "Mud-Slide-itis" with all the unstable, unrooted earth. Sure enough, multiple sections of trail had been wiped away, mud & rock falls threw chunks down at us (even hitting Kim's arm), and we were in full escape mode. We luckily just made it back to safety but not without our moments of full-on panic. Lessons from today: 1) Bear cubs may not be the worst of your worries. 2) don't underestimate a California "rain" prediction. 3) keep your cool and get to safety in emergency situations. 4) sometimes it's important to listen to that inner voice. 5) have cold beer waiting at home. #ScarySunday
