We left under a grey crushed velvet sky convinced we’d spend the day ensconced in a waterproof embrace. A hot climb approximately 30 seconds into the ride had us stripping aff breeks to let our perky pins breath once more. We enjoyed keeking at the big houses in Whiting Bay and wondered how Arran can possibly have a better bus service than south Bristol. Twisty climbs around the southern tip of the island were rewarded with views of cute lambs, Aisla crag and an almighty taily. Woof! We momentarily requisitioned a shelter by a farm track to guzzle a croissant and continue onto Blackwaterfoot. On A Roll delivered a full lunch for less than £7 – remarkable stuff. I adore the beautiful flat roads past Machrie, doubly so when being shunted along by a tremendous southerly. We now bed down in Lochranza before heading over to Kennacraig and Islay tomorrow.
