Surprised I didn't see you.
Nice! Can't wait to do this later this week!
jeff eisenman & Beau Van Zante, Beto Espitia and I will do a sunset run up Mt. Umunhum later this week if you guys would like to tag along. Spectacular views at the summit! Lots of my cycling friends played hooky today 😂
Harrison, did the fog lift by the time you got to the top? So many people on the trails today!
Cherl, you & Monica would enjoy it! Have fun on Thurs.
Unfortunately, no. visibility was 100 feet or so at the summit. Of course it was clear after I came down. I will try again Thursday morning.
Nice! I am doing that run this week for sure.
Great pictures thanks!
View looks spectacular, thanks for sharing all of your photos! Can't wait to see it later this week
Harrison, yes, you should definitely go back. It was misty when Mandy, Mary & I started out. Once we got to the top, clear skies!
David Carroll, you're welcome. Should be a nice long run for you starting from QS Hacienda Entrance to Woods and Barlow. Barlow is now open.
Can't wait. Pictures look amazing
What is the cube for, Nina?
Once I am running again I need you to take me up here! I'll take you up Tam in return. 😊
Jessi, deal! I've ridden my road bike up Mt. Tam. Also, did Mt. 30K race. Other than that, I'm not familiar with the park. Would love a tour of Mt. Tam when I'm healed up as well. I'm having bunion, hamstring & Achilles pain. Hope your recovery is going well.
We can do an ultra starting from QS or from Limekiln or Priest Rock from Alma Bridge. Go up Dog Meat to Mt. El Sombro, Mt. Umunhum & Bald Mtn. Another option is to start from Kennedy. Challenging part is water, which is not available at the summit of Mt. Umunhum.
Tim & Manny, you're welcome. Thanks.
Jamey, thanks. A runner was going up on my descent. She called out my name & said she's a friend of yours. I think she said her name was Harriotte. Don't think I've met her until today.
Vadim, it's a concrete radar tower, known as the "Cube" or the "Box".
Here's more info.
So exciting, new play ground !! I need to find a race there ;)
Have no clue about the cube and where you were but the trail looks so nice~~ I will check out the link you posted!
Looks so cool Nina, I'm there this weekend for sure.
Oh, I see... One of those relics of the previous Cold War! Thank you! You are the encyclopedia of local running/hiking routes!
Sunny, Mt. Umunhum is located at Sierra Azul (Hicks & Mt. Umunhum Rd)
Mark, great to hear from you. Glad you're still running. We need a reunion run with the gang. Let me know if you guys want to go. I'm injured & slow, but I'll get there :)
Jules, not too bad. Soft rolling switchbacks.
Wow, amazing pictures/views. Cannot wait to get out there!
Bret, I thought you were going to be there today. All of your MTB friends were there. 😀 Many of my road cycling friends were there as well. Crazy Jim Hamilton with his loud bell and Terrie rode it twice.
I really wanted to get out there today, but working two jobs to stay afloat has been keeping my outdoor activities sort of regulated. Hoping to check it out sometime this weekend.
HS, sweet trail. I'll be back for sure. Yes, hop on a plane with Disco Jules, Julien, Mark & gang and come out :)
Great Run and Pics Nina !! :-)
Norbert, thanks. Great to see so many hikers, cyclists & runners out there.
It was so nice meeting you. Umunhum is a beautiful place to run and bike. Happy trails & thanks for the photo!
Tom, likewise. You're welcome. BTW, my girlfriends, Mandy & Mary, were in one of your photos on your feed :) Mt. Um Road looks smooth as butter. I bet it was nice for you & Wayne to ride on it. You guys should check out the new trail with your MTBs.
I just found them in the photo. :) The pavement was so nice both directions. The downhill speed can get you into trouble if you don't pay attention, but it is so fun to ride! I can't wait to hit the dirt section!
I need to hit that up soon!
Donnie, best view of San Jose! The trail is nice & wide. Not a difficult run like Mission Peak or Dog Meat. It's similar to John Nicholas. I suspect that everyone is going to run here & PR :) Do you want to go tomorrow, 9/20 when you get off work? Park closes 1/2 hour after sunset. Sunset is 7:09 PM.
After work is tough with all the kids activities. I am planning to take friday off so I think I might hit it up after I bring the kids to school. Probably be there around 9-9:30 if you want to join me.
Donnie, sounds good. See you on 9/22. Just texted you to confirm meeting spot.
Nina. You ran up Mt Um? Did not ride it?
Chuck, yes, I ran up Mt. Um, then back down. I haven't been on my road bike since my bike crash in Jan. 2016. Still traumatized from my crash. Also, I have so many other injuries. I need to heal first before attempting to ride again. I'm trying to hike or swim on rest days vs. running.
So cool! I have wanted to go up there since I moved to California. Will have to go up Saturday or maybe Friday before work (and if so, maybe see you somewhere on the trail).
Chuck, oops. I meant since my bike crash in Jan. 2017.
Martin, hope to see you on 9/22 at 9:15 AM at Bald Mtn parking lot on Mt. Umunhum Rd. It would be good to catch up. Haven't seen you since our Mt. Diablo race. Anyone else on this thread is welcome to join us.
Wow, how did you attach your photo along the route ? It looks great !!
I-Tao, thanks. Here's the link on how to add photos to your activity: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216917387-Add-a-Photo-to-an-Activity-iPhone
Hi Nina, thanks a lot. I guess it is iphone feature , I can add photos, but it will not show up along the route like yours..
