Giordano offered encouragement to get riding again, so we did a Sakamoto loop this morning.  It was lovely to ride in the relative cool of the overcast morning.  We got some light rain heading up to Tochu Pass, and later approaching Sakamoto the sky positively opened up for 10 minutes. It was lovely.  Temp got down to 23 (73F)!

Came across the construction for a new road. I asked the workers where it would connect to. One guy replied "Fairly far away..... Australia".  I immediately understood, and with my superior knowledge of the map asked "By way of Hawaii, right?" and was correct. Looking forward to it.

Tried a new path back through Otsu (in this route, from the 36.5km point to the 43km point).  10/10 better than the standard route.

Near home, I decided to pop over to Gion Matsuri to see the procession of floats, which I'd managed to avoid for the last 35 years. I expected it to be super crowded, but it wasn't bad at all.  After five minutes I'd had my fill and returned home.
