Route: Shade village to Niru Chu valley via Gautang La (4880 m) and Lar La (4670 m)
Distance: 23.50 km
Elevation gain: 1432 m

Day 14 of the Skypacking trip was special as it was Pete’s birthday. We were sleeping in the room adjacent to the kitchen. I could hear someone working in the kitchen very early morning (around 05:00 am). Namgyal Aacho was preparing a cake for Pete. We cut the cake at 06:00 am and Aacho made us wear a Khata / Khatag.

A khata or khatag is a Buddhist offering scarf in Himalayan Buddhism. It is widely used by the Tibetan, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Ladakhi, Mongolian, and Buryat on various occasions.
