[Glacier HOtel Running Tour]

Got on the trail just after 8. We walked the first couple of miles to Many Glacier Hotel to see how our legs felt. We checked the line at the boat dock to see about getting a ride to the end of the lake, but everything was waitlisted. By then we were actually feeling a bit better so started running along the shores of Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lakes.

Eventually we turned away from the day hiking crowds and slowed to a walk. Heading up to Piegan Pass we kept getting closer and closer to a waterfall, with the sound coming in and out as we made our way up the switchbacks. We stopped at the top of the pass for lunch.

A couple of miles down the trail we stopped and refilled water. We had a choice at this point between heading up Siyeh Pass, another 1000' of climbing, or heading down to the road with the option of a shuttle ride back to the hotel. We were both feeling pretty good so decided to head up the pass.

The view up to the top was rewarding, with another small chain of glacier-fed pools. Just before the top we ran into a snow bank across the trail which we carefully traversed.

The rest of the way down from there we were able to run most of the trail - at first it was exposed and not too steep, then further down there'd been a fire in the last few years that cleared out the vegetation, meaning we didn't have to be concerned about startling bears.

As we made the descent we decided to take the shuttle for the last four miles to the hotel, so we didn't have to repeat the anxiety of yesterday's run along the road.

Tomorrow's plans are still up in the air as part of the planned trail (Gunsight Pass) is closed due to bear activity. If it's still closed tomorrow we may shuttle back to the final hotel and do an out-and-back from there to Gem Lake and the foot of Sperry Glacier.
