A little bit of picking things up

Went out way too fast with a GAP of 8:35 (my threshold pace these days is around 8:15) and did the first 5K in 29 minutes with a lot of northeast technical with numerous climbs and descents, topping out with a heart rate of 183 BPM. My hips protested in threatening ways, so I eased my foot off the gas a bit. 

Towards the tail end of my first 10-mile loop, my left arch started rubbing for some strange reason and quickly developed a hot spot despite adjustment to my shoe and sock. I stopped at my drop bag to change my sock and smear on some Trail Toes. Unfortunately, the arch just kept getting worse, blistering soon after I started my 2nd loop. I adjusted the shoe and sock once more and then just let it ride. It made the 2nd loop that much harder, and slowed me down quite a bit but I pushed through. 

Thankfully, my hips settled down with my more moderate pace though my hamstrings were displeased with my uphill climbing. And in the end, the blister was the size of 2 quarters but shallow and intact.

Overall, it was a strong showing on my part, pushing myself in controlled ways while doing a race day dress rehearsal - testing out my 300 kcal/hr race nutrition on a long intense run, my new trekking pole quiver, my Coros pacer function, and other race day details.
