Super long story long, my “secret entrance to Yosemite” video a while back got someone so angry that they made sure the government knew about it, I got a notice to appear in court and today was my court case. 

It’s been a wild experience facing a maximum penalty of 6 months in jail for riding a bicycle for 5 seconds on a path in mariposa grove. My public defender was truly amazing and helped me so much navigate legal trouble which I’ve never had to deal with before. The prosecution is Strava stalking me and went through every post I’ve ever made so I can’t be to open about my feelings with that, however I understand they have a job to do and they believe they are doing the right thing. 

My defender was able to get a plea deal which means I only have one misdemeanor on my record now vs the many they could have gotten me for. The original plea agreement was 6 months probation + 6 months park ban. However I offered a compromise to the judge that I’d rather extend my probation to a year to reduce the ban time down to 3 months. 

I also have a $350 fine and have to remove that content. What’s crazy is there were 2 cases before mine of BASE jumping, 1 drunk in public, and 1 DUI. My case seemed almost comical compared to those, yet the prosecution made it clear they wanted to make an example of me. They painted a picture of me that I did not agree with, this picture was that I did this for social media clout and that I’ve hurt the park with my content. 

This hurt my soul, as I believe I’ve brought so much positive light to the park and brought so many people from around the world to enjoy my backyard. With that said, I did break the law and I fully accepted the consequences of that, I didn’t fight it or make excuses. 

I don’t want to bring harm to the park in anyway, so I understand their fear that I may encourage others to do the same and even if one person damages a tree or trail, I’d feel terrible. That’s not what I wanted, it wasn’t my intention to encourage anyone to hurt the park, I just wanted to show my amazing area and tell a cool story. If I had just walked the bike once at mariposa grove, maybe this is all avoided. I wasn’t avoiding paying as I always have an annual park pass and I wasn’t intentionally doing harm, but some didn’t see it that way. I will say the judge was very nice, gave me time to speak, and truly listened to me. 

What a wild story eh?
