V plánu jsem měl odemknout pár čtverců kolem Cvikova. Hlavně jsem doufal, že tam nikde nedostanu defekt, protože jsem nevezl lepení. Příjemný stupeň nad nulou se nekonal a jasné nebe přineslo 5 stupňů pod nulou. Nepočítal jsem s tím a promrzlé prsty mi sotva zatáhly brzdy. Po zpětné kontrole popisku: „Rukavice jsou určeny na cyklistiku v chladném a zimním počasí při teplotách od 6 °C do 11 °C.“ asi nebyly pro zvolené podmínky tou nejlepší volbou. Všichni si ale neseme svůj kříž ... Čtverce byly v hůř přístupném terénu a moje vyjížďka se příliš protahovala. Chtěl jsem být venku jen tři hodiny. Tak jsem to alespoň na konci fiknul přes „Jitravskou dálnici“ a nahnal nějakou rychlost. Proběhlo to v pohodě, jen v jednu chvíli jsem musel volit mezi přejetím skla na silnici nebo smrtí pod koly aut. Pro tentokrát jsem si vybral život.

My plan was to unlock a few grid squares around Cvikov. Mainly, I just hoped I wouldn’t get a flat because I didn’t bring a repair kit. The pleasant above-freezing temperature didn’t happen, and the clear skies brought a chill of -5°C instead. I hadn’t expected that, and my frozen fingers could barely pull the brakes. A quick check of the label revealed: “These gloves are designed for cycling in cool and winter weather at temperatures from 6°C to 11°C,”—probably not the best choice for the day. We all bear our crosses, though... The squares were in some pretty rough terrain, and my ride ended up dragging on longer than planned. I only wanted to be out for three hours, so I cut across the “Jitrava highway” at the end to pick up some speed. It all went smoothly, except for one point where I had to choose between riding over broken glass or being crushed by traffic. This time, I chose life.
