This is my 4th year doing the infamous Rock Cobbler even as the season opener. Bike setups have changed, and I think the Grail is the move. 

Year 1 : FULL ROAD BIKE /32s
Year 2&3: Grizle w/ suspension fork and dropper post.
This year: Grail w/ 2.0 MTB front tire & 44/11-52 gearing. 

The BOLDER course is 100mi/12k with steep climbs but also 1 giant 60-120min climb. So my thought process with this bike over the Grizle is that all the little advantages I would get with the suspension and dropper I will lose on the climb. 

The new Grail is so light, and the geo feels like a road bike: But really, the Rock Cobb course is so gnarly that whatever bike you run will be great at some point. A full squish MTB could even be a good option if you were needing more stability on the technical stuff. 

FITNESS: Probably the worst I’ve been numbers-wise coming into the new season. Not really sure why, just don’t have the desire to dig deep and have done a lot of Z2. Meaning I have no problem with distance or duration, but the intensity is just not there. 

Cracking the top 10 is gonna be tough based on the numbers I’m doing, but maybe things will come around soon:
