5th Overall (6th if including an unenrolled rider).
TSS: 401 | NP: 281w
I signed up as a social ride. The first 15km getting out of Torquay was fairly hard sorting out the lead peloton. The next 50km was fairly cruisy catching up with mates in the peloton. I then stopped for a nature break after getting a 30sec lead on peloton. 8min @ 365w to get back onto the peloton. In hindsight, this was an awesome warmup for the Forrest climb. I still had not decided to race yet. At 85km, we hit the bottom of the Forrest climb. 3 leaders went off. I matched them for a few mins but went into the red. I backed off and was caught by the next 4 who had broken from the peloton. I kept with this bunch comfortably and knew there was no point going solo with 100+km to go and unlikely to reach the 3 leaders. It was halfway up this climb I decided the race was on and I was not stopping. Only issue was I only had two bidons (900ml + 600ml) and limited gels. The group descended quickly down Skenes Ck Rd. We caught the 3 leaders only because they stopped for bidon refills at Kennett River. We were then a group of 8. Aside from one passenger, 7 did rolling turns. I was happy with well over my fair share of turns on the front, particularly up some of the climbs on GOR. We had a headwind for the whole 85km run along GOR. I ran out of fluid with 55km to go. I could feel the very early onset of cramps with 30km to go. 2 of the 9 were dropped with about 40km to go. I then struggled for the last 20km as it heated up a lot. Another rider and I were dropped with about 15km to. We rolled in for a photo finish for 5/6th. Overall, incredibly happy with fatigue resistance, particularly with the lack of fluid and carbs for the final 50km. Power PBs from 2.5hrs through to 5.5hrs.
