On the Saturday of the Easter Weekend, I participated in the Audax Randonneurs Nihonbashi Trace event as part of the AJ Nishitokyo team, "Team Maillot 24 Tokyo". Mr. D and I drove to Kofu on Friday in a rental car and had dinner with the rest of the team in the evening. After breakfast we set off at 07:30. It was sunny and soon got warm, with temperatures as high as 29 C. The first part of the route was flat or slightly downhill but around Minobu it was ups and downs. As we got closer to the coast, cool air returned, dropping to 25 C and then 23 C at the sea wall along the Shizuoka coast. We saw Mt Fuji from where Tomei crosses the Fuji river, but then it disappeared in the haze. My legs were toast by the halfway point in Izu, before we started the long but shallow climb to Gotemba, but a conbini break near the top restored me. We got clearer views of Mt Fuji in the evening light. It got dark as we descended towards Odawara. The final part of ride was flat again and it wasn't too cold. We stayed over night in a hotel, before moving on to the reception in Yoyogi on Sunday morning. After submitting the ride data, the team had a curry lunch together. We're planning to ride again next year, but with more practice before the main event.
