Carnegie Lake Regatta 2025: Mens Masters 4x 🥇, 2x 🥈, Lwt 1x 🥈

Plan was to bike to and from the ride and do the 100 mile option, adding up to 132 miles for the day. I replaced both of my tubes to new ones before the ride.

What actually happened: I managed to stay with a group, or at least I managed to stay with a guy named Pat who was going faster than any of the other groups. I flatted at mile 42 of the route soon after the second so station (so 57 from home). My spare tube didn't have a long enough valve for my deep rims... My mistake. No one who passed by me on the ride had long enough valves on their spare tubes either!! I guess that's a downside of deep rims no one tells you about... No one has tubes that fit you! I couldn't find the leak and didn't notice anything inside the tire.

Eventually a guy has a valve that just barely fits. I get it on and flat 15 miles later right before the third aid station. I pumped it up with my mini pump a bit and made it the less than a mile to the aid station, where they called the SAG vehicle which had just a pump but nothing else. I managed to find the leak in my first flat tube after getting filling a tray with water. Patched the tube and made it 20 miles to the fourth aid station where I noticed I was flat again 😭. Tried to make something work but it just kept slowly leaking. Decided to call it and take the SAG to the finish. I didn't get to go down the big hill!! Net uphill ride 😡. Pretty happy with how fast I was going up until then. Closest I've gotten to 100 miles without actually crossing 100...

Meghan Noonan and @Ron Pluto got to the finish right as I got out of the SAG, and Ron agreed to give me a ride home. Thank goodness I didn't have to get an Uber. Sad I had to quit on this ride. My rear tire's sidewalls are running thin. Maybe that's why I'm getting all these flats? I think this is my call to go tubeless and get 30 mm tires. Ryan Maguire Orland Gabe I'm going to do it. Gonna try selling off my remaining stockpile of 25 mm tires. If anyone wants to buy them off me plz hmu.

Got home at the same time I would have planned on getting home if I didn't flat at all, but with 34 fewer miles :/

Beautiful route as always. Couldn't do it without all the aid stations because most of it goes through absolutely no populated areas or anywhere with businesses to refill on food or water. Honestly they need to make this ride more expensive. It's $65 no matter what length ride you do, from 11 miles to 100. But with a free t shirt (which I decline and tell them to keep the money), 5 aid stations where people are eating a bunch of food (especially us 100 milers!), SAG vehicles and people marking the course, electrolyte mixes and water, free beer and lunch at the finish... Honestly next year if they don't raise the price I'm just going to donate more money. I feel bad paying this little for this event.
