It’s hard to put on words as I do think you have to see it yourself, but what a beautiful country Scotland is! Last three hours of today’s stage, which was an easy one despite the 130 kilometers, it was greenery as far as you could see. The amazing views kept popping up; the one minute more intense than the other. For certain a never ending scenery of absolute nature. From Lairg till Tongue, we followed the single track road and it delivered us maybe the most enjoyable ride of this journey. Smooth tarmac, complete silence and pretty damn close to checkpoint finish. Hundred kilometers to go from here on, strong tailwinds are expected!

Bonar Bridge
The first bridge here across the Kyle of Sutherland was designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1812; before then the village was known simply as Bonar. In 1892, some 80 years later, the bridge was destroyed by flood. A new bridge opened in 1893, also surviving 80 years, until it was replaced with the current bridge in 1973. Until the 1980s the village was an important stopover between Inverness and Caithness, but the building of the Dornoch Firth Bridge on the A9, cutting 20 miles off the route, means that Bonar Bridge is now much more off the beaten track. There is a breathtaking emptiness to the interior of the far north. Riding in the landscape you feel insignificant, yet alive, and uplifted by its vastness and wild beauty. This is in fact one of the most sparsely populated areas of Europe, in complete contrast to the crowded, highly urbanised environment which is many people’s daily experience of Britain.
