Cruising down hard pack gravel as the mountains lit up pink in the sunset... hell yeah
Full distance just over 200km (watch died). Got home around 1:30am.
Gravel bike all the way up to the refuge just 5km from the summit. It's tarmac all the way to Kardamili, then tarmac for the first 13km of the climb, the remaining 20km is very mixed quality gravel, mostly hard work, fairly fast in patches. From 1600m, the gravel doesn't climb any more, it just traverses toward Profitis Ilias and given two routes I chose the shorter flatter option to the refuge which was awful - deeply rutted and hadn't been resurfaced in forever (the path I took on the way down was much cleaner). Then the last 5km is a classically steep mountain summit ascent footpath, for which I brought trail shoes; locked the bike to a tree and summitted on foot.

2hrs40min to Kardimili at sea level;  an hour for breakfast.
5hrs sea to summit, pretty much to the minute.
Really chilled descent/return; got a bit of heatstroke on the walk down, had a long sit and chat with George and Eva, bought snacks in Kardamili, and proper dinner in Kalamata. Intentionally left the refuge (and George) with enough time to clear the gravel before dark, but sent the rest of the tarmac ascents and descents in the moonlight, which is much more enjoyable on a gravel bike where potholes aren't such a big deal.
