You don’t need goals to enjoy a ride, but setting up a few different goals at different levels can help you get more out of the ride as well as helps with motivation. The more numbers you have, power, HR, speed, calories… whatever, can all be goals in some way. 

I often set 3-5 goals, from easy to hard. Here’s my goals for this ride:

DISTANCE: Ride 120-150mi ✅
SPEED: Hold a 20mph+ avg ✅
POWER: Hold a 220+ raw avg ✅
BIKE: Stay in the TT position ✅
KOM: Get a 1:44hr KOM ❌

Even though I nailed 4 of 5 these, sometimes I only will get 1. You always want an easy one that you can control. Raw distance is pretty easy to make sure you get. For shorter rides, I will set a floor power goal and a ceiling goal. The floor being relatively easy to achieve giving a good sense of accomplishment no matter how the ride goes. 

Again, don’t need to set goals, but if you have no motivation, chasing some arbitrary number can do wonders.

BREAKFAST: Based on the CGM experiment, I found white rice is the best food for getting energy up and adding in a little fat can help it last a while. So a GIANT BOWL w/bagles

Granola (fat)
Pomegranates
Puffed Millit (volume) 
Fluid recovery mix 
Oat milk
Keto protein bagels /coconut yogurt
