Deepest Darkest Perthshire - New Cafe Unlocked 🔓🤩🙌

A perfect crisp day on the edge of winter to ride up and around the Tummel and Tay rivers, spearheaded by a mission to visit the new community owned cafe & restaurant in Kinloch Rannoch, The Cornerstone.

A fresh morning and later start to avoid as mist of the icy patches as possible staring out from Pitlochry. I followed the start route of the etape Caledonia, taking in the Trinafour climb to keep warm before dropping down again to roll into Kinloch Rannoch for lunch at the cafe. What a wonderful place and space, with floor to ceiling views of Schihallion, a food offering that feels crafted with love and attention to detail that’s all very reasonably priced!  I’ll be back, and this has now become my go to stop for rides in the area.

I then headed out into the frozen northern edge of the road skirting the northern side of schihallion, watching out for the odd ice party and feeling the fresh crunch of frost d tarmac. I was definitely glad when the climb opened up to sunbeams towards the top and all the way over and down to Aberfeldy. 

A chance encounter with local legend Brett DeWoody, a welcoming friendly face and font of knowledge for some nearby gravel trails I’m looking to do in the coming weeks. 

Then a gentle spin along the road following the meandering course or the Tay before peeling off to take the single lane road back up to Pitlochry just before I was dark, 

Locking this one in for a repeat in spring & summer with an additional loop up around Loch Rannoch on the cards 🙌
