We used to have a PGA tour calibre, 36 hole golf course right here in Montreal! It became most famous in the 1960s when it hosted some of the GOATs like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Today, Tommy and I stopped by the old welcome hut, I tee’d off on the first fairway, and then we explored the secret tunnel which historically connected the two parts of the course across Rue Viau. 

It closed in 1975 due to Mayor Jean Drapeau wanting to build the athlete village for the 1976 Olympics in its place. However, after public backlash, a compromise was reached where the golf course would close, but a green public park would remain. Riding through it today, it’s super clear it used to be a golf course! 

Luckily, the Montreal municipal golf course opened in 1977 so people could continue to get their rounds in. In fact, hole 9 of that course is almost unchanged from the original to this day.
