Good race this: 😁 run over muddy serpentine rural lanes with circa ~750ft elevation over the distance, translated rather loosly that equals a hilly and challenging course, demanding of continual changes in pace and attitude. 

Whilst others might have been putting up the Christmas timsel or sipping a mid-morning cinnamon latte, we were staggering around the muddy lanes. Some, like myself for a course debut.  

Apropos a downhill start, which saw me leading after a conservative first mile or so, 'though to eventually concede, with the first place man pulling away after mile 4 , then subsequently putting in a serious effort to get away from me into the final mile, where I seemed to close in on the hills, although perhaps too late(?)
Some good duelling with top club Shrewsbury club men, ten years my junior and resultant 5:15 splits in the middle sectors. But, in the end I simply wasn't able to maintain the sub 6-min mile over the up & down course. 

Superbly marshalled, and as I found, a quality old-school and lower-key event. 
Not ommiting to mention tasty free coffee, cake & sausage roll (in the church nave no less!)  afterward: The selection of delectable cakes out-doing sundry all-famous National Trust tea shops🫖. 

In the words of a certain Mr. Schwarzenegger: I'll be back! (And hopefully for a decent p1 finish!) now I'm familiar with thevorder & all the permutations of the course! 

Thanks to fellow former sub-six-minute man and hill-running aficionado/ masochist Mark Rodgers and my indefatigable 2:30 marathon running dad for the support, encouragement and of course, the photos!
