Back 2 Back! I won and set the CR here last year. This year would be a repeat!

Sometimes, I surprise myself. Today was one of those days!

I had to come back and race. This is one of the best vibe races I've run all year. The volunteers are amazing, Nick and Amanda Schuster are awesome! 45 years that this race has been run!

2nd place from last year Jack Swoffard had returned to race. We went out at the start together: uptempo but controlled and not crazy. Soon, Jack let me take the lead and I slowly started increasing it. Technically I would not see him during the race again, but he was always close, pushing the pace.

This year: Will-the-Wisp clouds had descended and saturated the course, giving an erie almost spooky feeling for the day. The leaves were wet and pushed down which actually helped because I could see all the hidden rocks in the trail. I knew the course and ran confident. This contributed to the faster times!

The 2nd aid had Hardrock finish/qualifer Zac Wilson volunteering and helping. Thank you!

I tried to stay focused and rolled my ankles a lot less than last year! It gave me a 3 minute PR and new CR from last year. I won by 7 minutes.

Some travel notes: plane ticket: $68.  Rental car: $ way too much. Got an extra fee for $30 which was not waranted. Avis did bad!
Flew out late Saturday night, technically 12:45 am Saturday. Arrived at 5:30 am. I always bring a camping blow up pad and a sleeping bag... so slept at ATL airport until 9 am. Then I hung out in the airport till 3ish. My goal was to get the rental around 4. I waited so that I'd  only be charged for a day. Picked up car at 4:15 and left rental center soon after. 
Drove to Pine Mountain. 85 mile drive. Got there at 5:30. Then hung out with Nick, Amanda, and a handful of other volunteers. Watched college FB and went to bed close to 9pm. Slept 9:05 to 7:14 am! Over 10 hours.

After the race: showered and hung out till 2ish then took a less direct (highway alt21) back to I85 and ATL. Got there at 3:30.
