Passed a Euro on the way down who asked “is it nice upstairs there?” Thought that was a fun word for the summit. Super cool park and peak. Highest point of Texas and my first state high point somehow. The peak used to be a reef 250 mya at the edge of a sea. Lots of excellent geology and coral fossils. The light was challenging so couldn’t get a great photo of any of the fossils in the rocks. Also apparently mahogany trees grow here, which is wild. 

The trail was very well done, not too steep but still chunky and challenging. With a few distinct sections and view changes. 

Another range I would come visit again to explore deeper into the backcountry.

Naturally, on the way here from El Paso you have to go through an immigration checkpoint on the highway. They ask you if you’re all American citizens, make sure you’re all white, and send you on your way. Glad we’re spending taxpayer money on this and not climate change or healthcare or poverty…
