Second time I've been defeated by Hell's Forest before even making it there. First time was about six years ago when I had an AirBNB booked in Panama City on a crazy long ride from Tybee Island that dipped almost down to Orlando before working my way back up. I was too tired and having knee problems so booked it straight home through Albany instead. This time I started in Dothan and had an awesome 300 mile loop going down through Mexico Beach, crossing Apalachicoloa, and then heading north on the sixty mile long paved road through The Forest. 
But when I stopped at my first gas station in Panama City I had to hop a curb and I noticed that my rear tire was super low. No problem, I had two tubes with me, but after completely replacing the tire twice I couldn't get it to seat right. There was a bunch of dried sealant and I could not see anything that would be causing a "bump". So I think part of the edge of the tire was folding back on itself. In any case, it was super annoying whomp, whomp, whomp for about 80 miles after a small loop and then heading straight back up Hwy 231. 
Making lemonade out of lemons, I was happy to get some good radar and lateral passing data to compare to Canadian Transcontinental Highway 16 ... similar speeds and a good mix of trucks and passenger vehicles. One thing is for sure they pass you FAST in Florida and Canada, but both places know how to do the shoulder well to make it moderately safe for cyclists.
