How was the trail?
Sandy. Very very sandy. And a fair bit of new single track that's going to -- in places -- be rough and very off camber if it's not bench cut before the race.
Welcome to Iceman.
Do you think i will fail if i ride my CX with 44c tires? I had a very hard time with 34's when I did it in 2012, I cannot bring my MTB because it weighs 36 lbs and is set up as SS. I'm just so not sure at this point. What would you suggest?
Fail? You'll finish, but you'll walk a lot... Then again, it depends on how sandy it actually is and how knobby the tires are. Who knows what the weather will do. I can tell you that there were parts I had a hard time with on 2.25"/2.4" tires on 35mm RIMS. You've got time, set the SS up as a geared bike and weight be damned?
Fail = suffer tremendously. I don't know... I am way more comfortable with my CX and the gearing I have, just worried about the tire/sand combo. It's like both bikes I have are incorrect for the application yet I can only choose one.
I don't see it being any different this year, honestly... More new single track, the same hard hills, still lots of sand... I'd bring the SS and suffer less. Better to make it through the sand and run the hills than run the sand and be able to climb the hills.
Hey was the return route any different from last year's Iceman because I was planning on maybe?? Might be heading up this weekend and riding the course and just using my last years GPS file.?
Yeah, lots different.
