First local ITT today! Very excited about that--perfect solution for COVID. Very humid with dew point at 72.  For the first time since probably the late 1990s on the Colnago, I was back in the TT position. Used clip-on bars, aero helmet, skinsuit. Same seat position (road/gravel). The Stig is a gravel/cyclocross bike but I have road wheels for it. Calibrated my Favero Assioma power pedals before the ride. I put my bars on just this week and worked a few hours into my trainer sessions. I missed the TT pre-ride get-together because they moved it up 30 minutes (didn't get the change) so just went to the course to see if I could find anyone. Darren A. (the eventual TT 2d place) finished when I was warming up near the Guinney Station store and gave me some general guidelines. Karen (with Bomber, our 13 week-old Lab puppy) was there to take pictures on the course as I wanted to see my aero position from various angles. It was nice having her behind me on the course as I could see her car in my Garmin Varia radar and it kept cars/trucks from bombing me from behind. I felt pretty good despite the heat and although the puppy (no sleep!) and work has kept me from training consistently for several weeks I think I went pretty good. Averaged 268 watts for 35 minutes, which is right on target--was aiming for 270 watts.  I can always do better and have some ideas about that. But my position is OK for a road position with just clip-ons and the helmet worked pretty good and is comfortable. The Castelli San Remo skinsuit is REALLY comfortable and feels fast. This is a good TT course for me as it's fairly flat with some power rollers.

What I posted to TR:
Inaugural local 14.3 mile ITT. Weirdly, I averaged 268 (Strava) and 269 (TR) for the race, which is exactly what my last two ramp tests estimated. I guess I'm middle of the normal curve for TR, so I got that going for me, which is nice. But the heart rates are really the anomaly--I hardly ever see 175 and use that as my max HR. Today I AVERAGED 175 for the TT and maxed at the end at 184. Well, there's no explaining that. Humid day? Check. Old guy? Check. Morning race? Check. Maxed-out personal stress? Check. I guess the old ticker can go up to 184. At 175 it didn't feel bad at all. Breathing was under control, etc. Managed my TT pace really well despite not having done one since I was a Cat II in the late 1990s. In any case, I got third overall, which isn't bad since two Cat II 20-somethings got me--this time. Winner averaged 313 watts--not happening here for awhile! Got to admire that kid. Used my cyclocross/gravel bike (THE STIG!), Profile TT clip-on bars, same seat position, skinsuit, aero helmet, stripped bike (no bottles, seat pack, etc.), calibrated Assioma pedals, shoe covers, Conti 5000 TL 28c tires  (at 75 psi--I weigh 170) and 40 mm carbon rims (i.e., not exactly aero). Felt good when it was done.
