Jeff, I'm going to break my MTN bike out this week. I'm new to the area, used to riding trails in the German alps or the Utah rockies. Can you advise me of some good places to ride near Fairfax? Thanks.
Scott - sure. In Fairfax, Fountainhead Park is the local favorite (but you have to check first to see if the trails are open - they close when wet). Laurel Hill is nearby and is usually good, even when wet. Also look at Lake Fairfax in Reston (but not so good when it's wet). Further away, look for more climbing at Elizabeth Furnace (search for segments near Fort Valley road in the area of Front Royal, VA) and Gambrill/Watershed in Frederick, MD.
