That was entertaining. Cold but the snow had cleared on the roads. 
I was having a brilliant time and then got to the flooded bit at Rackheath way. I have ridden through this in the past but today, a yard or twofrom the gate, it was clear that the bottom of that puddle was too deep and too muddy. Ankle deep in water I took a couple of strides back to dry land. I say dry, there was inly an inch of mud so it was near enough. I pushed my bike ‘puddle side’ of the gate, while staying dry side. A bit awkward but perfectly doable. Then climbed over gate to join my bike and gently walk along the raised verge bit. Stopping for pics of the puddle and the ‘no fishing’ sign that made me smile. Onwards! Apart from a couple of interesting puddles, not deep as kids were walking through and didn’t drown, I got to Horsford woods and didn’t get lost. I thought doing the route backwards may be handy and it was. As long as I can remember for next time. 
All was wonderful until halfway down the hill to The Ringland Swan when my right hand gear cable decided that it was an excellent time to break. Naturally I was on my 11 tooth cog. 
A quick faddle about, getting chain on to more sensible cog, calling for advise, and much swearing, I was on my way again. I carry a tiny toolkit and it’s saved my ride a few times over the years. 
The hill out of Ringland to Costessey wasn’t overly hideous, thanks to a million squats encouraged by Joe Wicks, there is a lot more strength in my legs than most January’s. Then another issue with a flat rear tyre. The word ‘bugger’ may have been repeated as I trudged up the rest of the hill. Tyre sorted at a little lay-by at the top and a lovely pair of MTBers came along and put the tyre back on as, after patching the hole, my hands were so cold I was having difficulty. Thank you so much chaps, if you are reading. 
I was determined to do my 50km today so followed the MTBs a bit then turned off as my lying Garmin said to. Did 100 yards and thought‘stuff this’ and turned tail and decided to be brave and ride up Longwater Lane in the gear that I was stuck in. I got up, felt sick, but made it. Couple of wee detours to home to make the 50km but currently have coffee, peanut butter on toast (home baked bread). 

My Planet X Das Boot winter riding boots rock. Nile deep in a puddle and not a drop of water leaked through. I love these boots. Warm dry feet are going to make 2021 better for me. I am going to take every little bit of cheer during this lockdown.
