38 degrees and a steady rain. I put the buds in my ear and hit the "7th kid" playlist. The Grass Roots started into Heaven Knows and my mind was in Virginia by the time my tires left my driveway. I was at 2020 Teddington with my other six siblings. We were all together at Mom's side. I was pretty sure I knew what news would be awaiting me when I finished, so I did my best to stay in the present for the three hours that followed.

My Mom had a heart attack Thursday night, and a trip to the ER confirmed that the damage to heart and lungs was pretty severe. The family chat thread relayed constant updates from Sue and John, the two siblings who got to Mom. Checking in on Saturday morning, Mom's decline had continued. Snow and time made it impossible for me to get there physically, hence my mental trip aboard my bike. 

My dear Mom of 90 years passed away this afternoon in Richmond, Virginia ... thankfully with some of our family at her side. I am comforted at the thought of Mom and Pop finally reuniting after 13 years apart. Pop greeting her with that old sly smile of his, having a good long hug, and then starting to Jitterbug. 

Mom was my role model for service and for giving. For as long as she was capable, she gave her time, her energy, her skills, her love. I already miss her so much. 

The snow can't end quickly enough. I am anxious to touch down at RIC and join my siblings. I am anxious to reunite with family, friends, and neighbors to say our farewells to this incredible lady!

Joe, Ann, Sue, Beth, John, and Jim, I'll be playing Three Dog Night's Joy to the World constantly as I get things in order for my trip. Be there soon.
