Sweet, so here is how the KOM went down ... The light at the top of the hill is a long light for Hwy 31 because traffic backs up so bad. When it turns green, people coming off Shades Crest (like me) wait for gaps in the cars from people on Hwy 31 who aren't paying attention at the light and open up a gap coming up the hill from downtown Vestavia. Well, today, I was already running late for work and when I came up to the Hwy 31 light, I noticed a big dump truck had opened a huge gap and was still moving slowly so I hit it hard to pull out in front knowing that the dumptruck would probably go down the hill at 40mph instead of 50mph (average speed of cars). So my motivation at the top of the hill was to get enough speed so that the dumptruck wouldn't feel the need to pass or hit his brakes. Well, the truck must have been fully loaded and going very slowly because I dropped him badly and had a wide open road in front of me for the descent. At this point, I had enough speed with no updraft since the morning temps hadn't started to rise yet and I knew I would get the KOM as long as traffic wasn't backed up to the bridge coming off Lakeshore. It wasn't, so I dropped the KOM by 2 seconds.
WOW - late for work so the KOMs fall fast where Brian lives :)
I have a quarter mile commute through two traffic lights, driving to work does no good when your late!!
He's sick only a 17 mile ride! ;)
