Most amazing day! With Chris, Steve, Myles, and so glad we had sufficient collective strength to get through the hardest parts. Hit trail at 2AM for 15+ hr adventure. Covered a bunch if forest miles before dawn, in partly-successful effort to reduce exposure to afternoon heat. Some great sub-alpine stretches and many views of peaks (mostly Adams, St. Helens, & Rainier). Minimal snow over 6000' but it saved us in the heat.
This was a physically tough day but a huge payoff to visit some of the most spectacular terrain in Washington, even if the elevation wasn't extreme. Goat Rocks Wilderness is a global treasure.
I'm still digesting the potential implication such a heat spell would have for Cascade Crest in late August....
