Pictures are of output from my new Garmin Radar as displayed on my GPS . Red Bars mean something is detected and closing your position. Distance of the dot from the top of the display indicates range and the dot moves up the screen as it closes.  If there are multiple cars, it will show a dot for each and each maintains distancing associated with it'a range to you. Green bars mean all clear.  
So far in 2 rides it's very cool. There is also an Audio alarm when initial detection is made. Range is about 150m so 450 +/- feet depending on Radar Cross Section of the vehicle. So far in 3 hours there have been zero false detections and zero missed detections, I am already comfortable enough that I no longer feel a need to look behind me to move left if I need to to avoid an obstacle. 
I recommend this product. It's about $150 for a radar only unit or if you want an integrated  like I bought, it was about $200. I look at this is one more tool in the fight for safety when you ride !
