Was trying to run the fastest known O&B on Beaver Brook starting from the East. From what I could find on Strava there was one dude who ran it at 10:14 pace. If I ran faster than anyone I saw on there I was going to probably submit it to FKT since this route isn’t on there yet! Was aiming for around 10 flat and was in good position six miles in (1:01:40), and in even better position at mile 12 (1:58:50). 

Mile 13 is what made everything go downhill. Close to 900 feet of gain in that mile. I already had been working pretty hard to keep close to 10:00 pace so that climb just killed me. Legs were toast when I got to the top at around 13.3 + I was so thirsty that I chugged pretty much all of what I’d refilled a mile and a half ago. 

Thought maybe I could work the pace down again, but I just didn’t have enough in the legs to rip any kind of faster times during flatter sections. Knew it was over with three miles to go, especially with the technicality of the last mile. Took it easy, chugged two bottles worth of water at the final stream crossing, and took my L. 

Overestimated how fast I could go on here. It’s pretty long, but really just forgot how goddamn technical and slow some miles are. Knew down in the canyon on the West side would be slow, but just too many miles over 11:00 min. pace. Pretty smoky, but I don’t think that really had anything to do with the result. Think the talent level just isn’t up to par. 😂
