Second half of the race, after having to swap watches after the battery of the first one died, the cold draining it in half the time.
Much harder than the first half, as the terrain was just relentlessly gnarly - completely trackless after the slabs from The Cheviot ran out, and what trod there was just disappeared in the undergrowth. It was either Cape Wrath-style bogs, or metre high clumpy heather, or both, and continued for about 10km until CP2. Painful doesn't describe it.
Sun set while I put on an extra layer and warmer inner gloves for the final section, before setting out after eating a lot of chocolate, refilling my drinks and having some coffee. The first few kms were a steady climb on reasonable track, before another 15km or so of just trackless hilly bog and clumpy heather. At night, with no discernable trod at all.  Nav was really hard. And mental fatigue was setting in. Eventually there was a runnable-ish descent off the top of Hedgehope Hill, but this disappeared into a forest of clumpy fern. Finally hit the fire road with 7km to go. But there was a 2km section thrown in "for fun" that comprised horrible wet rock scrambling followed by a 20% muddy climb of 200m vertical before a final easy 3km finish.
Overall time and placing feels a bit "meh", but good prep for next month's Spine ...
