Zwift - Overgeared (SS) on Stay Puft Pursuit in New York

Having missed the Fife Century Reliability ride last week, when I spotted this one… Starting at 10am, it was a leisurely spin down to Milton of Balgonie. Pitscottie, Chance Inn, Cults, Star, Markinch and there. Really nice morning for it - although the roads got progressively wetter and dirtier the further I went - curse me leaving my mud guards at parents at Christmas. I hadn’t been that way through Star, and never been to Markinch - new roads :)

A big group headed out for the 68 mile route, and we really motored on with the wind to Crail. Really is fun covering the miles quickly in a pack like that sometimes :) We were thinning out a bit heading for St Andrews, and I’m not sure how but we ended up split in to two again going through Boarhills. In to St Andrews and we more or less got back together but through the traffic lights I got split completely - something about me cannot run through a red even if everyone else is. So…

I tackled the A91 to Guardbridge on my own, and in to a strengthening headwind. No much fun. Getting to the Guardbridge roundabout I decided I’d had quite enough of the A91 - the route should have been to the Dairsie roundabout and then to St Mikes - I headed for my (quieter) commute route - Toll Road to Balmullo then back on track. I’d jumped the group, but feeling tired at this point, and a bit peed off, so be it.

Spotted them coming up behind me on the Peacehill bit before Gauldry, so decided to stop and take a flapjack. A friendly face stopped too - not on the ride - we shared a few mins of chat then back at it. Took the Gauldry climb with a couple of guys on the ride, then I made the wrong turn - took the earlier decent of Coarse Brae (or whatever that side is called). Never mind but it did mean I needed to do a short stretch into the wind on the A92.

Over Rathillet I joined a couple of guys and we compared our detours ;) The pack came through again - much smaller now - I tried to latch on, but it was stringing out and I just stuck with a few guys for the run back to the hall - Garlie Bank, Montrave, Windygates and Milton.

Cake. CAKE. I filled my face and headed for home. Having realised my messages to Mrs S hadn’t gone through earlier I stopped at the top of Bonnybank to let her know I wasn’t roadkill - yay phone signal. The run from here wasn’t too bad (but I had the wind helping) I just span the legs and let the gears take the load. Put in a little loop, Teases Toll, Ceres, Baldinnie, Dura Den and Nydie to finish. Tour of the Highlands has some rough stuff at the end of the rides, so I didn’t want to take the flattest easiest tail-windiest route home - and 100 miles :)

First century of the year in the bag. First of many hopefully. A really nice day for it.
