Wow, that was something.  21st overall, 17th male.  

We got a taste of the Western States experience with record setting temperatures.  By the time we took off at 9am, it was already hot in Auburn.

The first 15 miles went well, and then the wheels came off. I struggled with nausea, dehydration, and overheating.  I wasn’t heat acclimated and had a really hard time getting in enough electrolytes.

I threw out the race plan and went into survival mode, letting loads of people pass me.  I had to make it to night when temperatures dropped and hoped I could make up for lost time.

The plan worked, and things turned around at mile 45.  From there on out, no one passed me.  I steadily moved back up the field, managing to negative split the race.

I clawed back to a sub 24 finish, 17th place, and 2nd in my age group.  I don’t think it was quite enough to punch my ticket to UTMB, but there is a chance.  I need to see how their confusing age group system shakes out.

Massive thanks to the AMAZING volunteers on course - couldn’t have done it with them.

Big shout out to Charles Cai and Adam Copeland for crushing the 100k and 25k races.  And Michelle Young won her age group and punched her ticket to Chamonix!  🎉🍾🔥
