Freezing cold start but morale high until a snapped gear cable in Ford. Managed to grind back down the a697 to rothbury in my biggest gear at about 50rpm for an hour to meet Graeme in the neutral service car with a spare bike. Cracked on out west but constant rain and a sore knee (due to said grinding) really testing the patience. Finally brightened and dried up near Morpeth and the sensations improved enough to consider pushing on for the ton….thought better of it
