Lately I’ve been experimenting with new foods while trail running and hiking and climbing. I’m kind of tired of the usual energy bars and gels as I find they make my stomach unhappy. Honestly, when my heart feels like it’s going to beat right out of my chest the last thing I want to eat is a sugary gelatinous goo.
To make it onto my list the foods need to be: transportable (light/low water content & crushable), keep for at least 2 days, and ideally have a high calorie content. The foods should be appetizing and appealing to me even when I don’t feel hungry.
This is the current list that I’ve come up with. I’ll try to update this list as I think of more suitable foods.
- Pork rinds
- Sardines in mustard sauce w/ corn tortillas
- Olive Oil
- Cliff Blocs
- Cliff Z Bars
- Dates w/ peanut butter
- Bacon (pre-cooked)
- Dark Chocolate
- Whisps (dehydrated cheese)
