I started riding in November of 2014 soon after having tubes inserted in my ears to manage bilateral Meniere's disease and a Nissen Fundoplication to calm the savage beast living in my stomach. I also had a hernia repair in 2015.
My goal of climbing 1,000,000 feet in 2015 has been met. I am now an elevation millionaire!
In the early 2000's, I spent several years immersed in the daily routines of the sweat lodge of the Havasupai in the Grand Canyon. The life I was able to experience restored my mental health after surviving cancer. Those routines are the basis of how my day is structured. The spirit of the lodge is the energy that sustains my consistent daily rhythm, including climbing. Feeling the Hog breathe every day reminds me that my wish has been granted!
I also spend time playing the didgeridoo. The journey to the million foot quest started when I learned to circular breathe. The immediate feedback in the form of a physical vibration restores my cycling mojo most days of the week.
With the symptoms of Meniere's in remission, I hope to inspire others to seek treatment and live a healthy lifestyle.
