2013: A year ago, I weighed over 200 lbs. Started Weight Watchers and 4 mos later rediscovered my love of cycling. From 25mi/wk to 140mi/wk, I lost 40lbs and regained my health and a measure of fitness. At 62, I'm feeling damned good and Strava has been there to help me track my progress and successes. --- Aug 19 2014: I am 8 weeks post surgery (total right hip replacement). Saturday 16 August was my first ride since the end of June. A modest 5 miles, but I did it. Today was 8.4 miles. Plan: Walking 4 x week, riding 3 x week. Recovery slow but my phys therapist is thrilled with my progress. I've got a long way to go, but I am not only hopeful, I am convinced I'll be back to where I was pre-surgery in the near future. --- Feb 17 2015: Had another major surgery on Oct. 31 2014. A lot of recovery going on the last half of 2014. Gained 30 lbs. Frustrating. I've been able to start riding again. Feels like freedom. And hope. --- March 2016: Spinal fusion, no biking for quite a while. 5 months of pain mgt. Gained 10 more lbs from lack of activity. A bit of a dark time. --- May 2017: Finally able to start riding again! (I turned 65 last Oct.) I'm only riding 9-17 mi three times a week, but it feels so good to be back in the saddle. How I have missed this! Still riding my old Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra w/road tires, what a trooper this bike as been. --- July 13 2017: Bike stolen. A tear-jerker day. Didn't think I'd be able to replace it, but a friend stepped in and offered to help. Thief even took my helmet and gloves. --- July 26 2017: Picked up my new Cannondale Bad Boy 1 this afternoon. Still waiting on a helmet day after tomorrow. Two weeks since I've ridden, still feel like I'm starting from scratch. Saturday will be my first ride, checking out the crazy new stuff: lefty fork, 8-speeds, belt drive. It'll be fun!!!
