Horwich End Cycling Club

United Kingdom Whaley Bridge, England, United Kingdom

Founded in 1903 by local, well loved, eccentric Horace Fotherington-Kelly, Horwich End Cycling Club was originally known as New Horwich Velo, the name being changed to its more recent guise in 1965. Fotherington-Kelly, who was the 3rd Duke of New Horwich and Marquess of Taxal, developed a love of his velocipede during the early Edwardian period, eschewing his horse and carriage in favour of riding his bike when visiting neighbouring estates. He soon took to riding his bike for pleasure alone and a short time later founded what would become Whaley Bridge's most prestigious cycling club.
