Our Rules

Whilst we don’t want to be draconian with too many rules, but safety is the single most important consideration for our club rides, and we ask you to take this very seriously.

All riders must be 18 years old or older, and helmets are compulsory on club rides. It is essential that your bike is in a safe, roadworthy condition, with appropriate lights for the conditions.

Please pick the right speed group, and as a general rule, it would be worth starting with a slower group than a faster one. We won’t ever leave anyone behind, so if you’re struggling, just say. The leader will not necessarily ride at the front, but will be familiar with the route and have some cycling experience. Depending on the numbers, a sweeper may ride at the back of the group, and make sure riders do not become detached. However we will always re-group at the top of hills or at junctions. Please respect the leaders decision and do not speed off the front of the group, as this will put undue pressure on the other riders. It's a group ride, so lets ride as a group! We want everybody to enjoy his or her ride.

Whilst other riders may be able to help with mechanicals, we would ask all riders to be able to fix basic problems such as punctures. Always carry your membership card, a pump, and some spare inner tubes that are the correct size for your bike.

Hydration: It is also important to ensure you bring enough fluids and snacks, especially on the longer rides, and on hot days. There is nothing worse than bonking in the middle of nowhere. A mobile phone is also useful, but not essential.

We ask everyone, when riding to have respect for their fellow riders and all other road users. Please follow the Highway Code at all times. We will generally try to avoid ‘A’ or major roads, which means that we will cycle down some narrow country lanes, so where appropriate and safe to do so, allow drivers to get past you on these narrow roads. We would also encourage you to ride two-abreast when it is safe to do so – this way the group is a compact unit, which can ride efficiently but easily move to single-file when needed to

Should there be an incident, please support the ride leader and offer any help you can, whether it be making a phone call to seek help, warning other road users, or assisting with any injured riders.

Any cancellations/changes to the route, timings etc., will be detailed in the Events calendar. Please check in advance, especially if ice, fog or persistent rain is forecast.

You can bring your bike to the start by car if you’d like/need to. The car park at St. Mark’s is generally safe and secure.
