PORTO-VELO has been established to:
promote cycling for fitness, fun – and for families
encourage and develop cyclists of all ages, and at all levels
organise regular, varied rides for adults, plus family excursions during the summer months.
Sunday fitness rides
The weekly Sunday rides leave the bandstand at the east end of the Esplanade at 9 am (Nov-Feb), 8 am (Mar-Oct), and return by lunchtime. Routes vary and mostly stick to quieter roads; there is usually a cafe stop. Distances are up to 60 or so miles, but shorter options of 25-40 miles are also available. Each ride is led by an experienced cyclist who manages the pace to ensure no-one gets left behind.
During the summer months, Porto-Velo organises occasional Saturday excursions for parents and children, on quiet roads or off-road tracks.
Club members meet on the last Thursday of each month, at 9 pm in the Dalriada (on the Promenade). Come along to find out more, and to enjoy a drink with fellow cyclists.
