The BR! Saturday Morning Ride Start/Finish has now changed from inside the main entrance to Roswell Area Part to the parking lot located between the park and Roswell North Elementary School Parking Lot (RIGHT NEXT DOOR), to Roswell Area Park. The address is 10517 Woodstock Road, Roswell, GA. Same ride.
Start/Finish: Roswell Area Park
Distance: 20-25 miles
Ride level: For intermediate to experienced riders
This is an informal ride that follows a portion of the Mayor’s Ride route through Roswell. There are 20 and 25 mile options. The Saturday Morning Ride is open to all road riders, beginning riders WILL find this route challenging. There are hills and there are nice flats (next to the river). Most of the Saturday riders use road bikes: riding a heavy hybrid bike will make this ride a bit more work but it has been done. The ride tends to be more social than most group rides: it is a good ”first group ride” experience for solo riders who are learning group riding skills.
The main body of riders rides at a “C” level pace, averaging around 15-17mph for the entire 25 mile route. The pace of the ride varies by the ability of the riders who show up, usually breaking into two or three groups during the ride. The route is the same as the Thursday night ride but we start at Roswell Area Park. Helmet required, rain at start time cancels.
Ride Safety: Rules of the road apply. The City of Roswell has attained Bicycle Friendly Bronze status through the League of American Bicyclists. To attain Silver status, we need to build better community between motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. It is important to adhere to the rules (reviewed before each ride) in the Bike Roswell! safety briefing:
Please be reminded that a purpose of Bike Roswell is bicycle education. As you ride today, you represent Bike Roswell! This makes you educators. You serve as a model to other cyclists who are just learning the rules of group riding and to motorists and pedestrians. Bike Roswell encourages bicycle riding in the city, however Bike Roswell! assumes no liability for this ride: you ride at your own risk. This is a ride: not a race. By participating in this ride as a Bike Roswell! cyclist, you are agreeing to adhere to the following:
Wear your helmet and keep your ears clear (no ear buds)
Ride no more than two abreast, as far to the right as practical
Call out “Car Back” or “Car Up”
When you hear “Car Back” or when a car or truck is behind you, ride single file
Call out your intentions to riders immediately behind you: “Slowing” “Stopping”
Use traffic hand signals when appropriate
Point to road hazards and/or call out to riders behind you: “Gravel” “Hole”
Call out to riders/pedestrians you are about to pass: “On Your Left” -except in a pace line always pass on the left
Obey all traffic signs and signals.
Ride defensively and use common sense and courtesy toward motorists, pedestrians, and other cyclists
