A round the year social ride for any cyclist who also likes beer.
We meet outside Cosham Library, with a view to setting off by 18:20, prompt. Depending on the mix of riders at the start, there are generally two groups; a) a fast group who ride around 25-30 miles to the pub and b) a 'pub paced' group who ride around 15-18 miles to the same pub for 20:00. Two separate group leaders plan a route for each group linking together the tangle of lanes that wind around the rolling Hampshire and West Sussex countryside.
Once we get to the pub, (let's face it, the focal point of the ride) things relax a bit and there's plenty of time for beer and grub if you want it. Exhaustive research by group members has ensured that the pubs selected sell reasonably priced, well-kept beer.
The pubs vary from week to week as does the route. Some people ride straight to the pub at their own pace (or from somewhere other than Pompey) and meet us at 8pm to cycle home for 10pm which is fine. On the return home, we wait for slower members to catch up and try to keep together.
Good lights are essential as is sufficient and appropriate clothing for the time of year. It also helps if you are OK with riding in the dark and in a group.
If you find yourself at a loose end on a Wednesday, come along.
