Based at the Dereham Neatherd High School – close to where those very first running steps were taken – we have our own clubhouse on the playing field at the rear of the school. We enjoy the use of the school’s 8-lane grass running track during the summer months and with the provision of our own floodlighting are able to use the main playing field for our outdoor training sessions in the autumn/winter seasons. We also have the use of the main hall for junior winter training and indoor sports hall athletics sessions.
We also maintain ties with the Northgate High School, Dereham where we base our circuit training sessions on Monday evenings between October and April.
Hill sessions take place on Elvin Hill, Dereham and speed sessions on tarmac on Rashes Green, Toftwood.
We are a friendly club and we cater for all age groups and abilities. Our present membership ranges in age from 7 to 67. We offer support, UK Athletics qualified coaching and training in a wide range of track and field, road running and cross country disciplines.
Not all members are interested in competitive running – some train simply to keep fit or lose weight.
Our members also have the opportunity to take part in a multitude of competitive events, both at junior and senior level, in and around the county – some even compete in various road running events around the world. We normally have at least one runner representing the club in the London Marathon each year. In recent years we have had people approach the club primarily to train for this particular race. We are proud to have been able to help them all achieve their personal goal and many have gone on to become club members.
Our junior athletes have also achieved success in a variety of events over recent years, taking part in both the county and national indoor sports hall competitions and the Ryston Runners Grand Prix cross country race series.
Both junior and senior athletes compete in the East Anglian League track and field competition series.
