Polo Fields every Tuesday a.m. from 6:30ish to 7:15ish, starting next Tuesday.
For those who are unfamiliar, here's the basic set-up:
Between 6:30-7:00, pace line laps around the Polo Fields, at a more or less civil pace (more civil now, less civil in January), at 7:00 someone calls 5 laps to go, and we go.
Since I'm still road captain, here are the rules:
1) Small chain-ring until January 1 (no buying 44s).
2) No involuntary drops (i.e. pay attention, if someone isn't in race shape, they should still be able to rotate, recover, and stay with us).
3) Focus on being smooth.
4) Limited pulls at the front, so that the rotation stays smooth. Sometimes that's half-laps, sometimes it is 15 seconds on and rotate; once the pace gets going in January (http://www.strava.com/segments/6218803?filter=overall) you are welcome to try a longer pull, if you can do so without killing yourself.
5) And, give feedback. The idea is to get better, and having a second set of eyes telling you that you always surge when you smell the front is very helpful.
This is a great way of learning how to draft, control your speed, and set up for a sprint in a controlled, approachable environment.
For more experienced riders, this is a great way to build base and keep motivation without blowing yourself out (or getting so bored doing weekly base miles that you decide to do Warren Wall repeats).
Also, invite people. Particularly newer riders (there's a points bump if you do).
Points will be awarded, and tallied as follows:
Showing up: 1
To make things interesting, here are some bonuses.
2x points on rain days
2x points for your first win.
1.5x points if you are in the sexual minority for the day.
1.5x points for each non-mouse you bring with you.
In other words, if it is raining like hell, you convince a non-mouse to join you, nobody shows up, and you out-sprint them for your first win . . . you'll have a crushing points advantage.
NO PYRAMID POINTS COLLECTIONS FOR PEOPLE WHO INVITE PEOPLE, WHO INVITE PEOPLE UNLESS SOME ENJOYS SEXUAL CONGRESS WITH A NEW PARTNER AS A RESULT.
Winner at the end of the season get something legal in California for your age, like an e-mail singing your praises, or a large wheel of cheese . . . unless someone wants me to bake them cookies.
