HUTCHINSON TIRES

Cycling   France Levallois-Perret, Île-de-France, France

A French firm founded in 1853 by Hiram Hutchinson in Langlée near Montargis,
France, Hutchinson began developing its expertise in coated textiles production
with the Aigle brand.

In 1890, Hutchinson started manufacturing bicycle tires.

In 1909 the brand won its first victory in competition thanks to Léon Georget
using monofilament tires. The world’s greatest cyclists wore the brand’s colors as they climbed peaks and racked up victories on the Tour de France (Louis Bobet in 1953, 1954 and 1955; Jacques Anquetil in 1957, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964).

Raymond Poulidor extended this glorious period with the famous collaboration
between Mercier and Hutchinson.

In 1983, Hutchinson launched the first 26’’ mountain bike tire, helping to spread
recreational biking to the masses.

In 1999 the brand teamed up with Mavic (wheel manufacturer) to launch the
first tubeless tire for mountain bikes.

It adapted the innovation in 2006 with the
introduction of the first road tubeless bike tire.

It is currently the only French bicycle tire manufacturer that manufactures its
products in France.

Today, for road and mountain biking, Hutchinson continues to stand out among
the greatest names: This year Hutchinson, was partner of the Europcar and FDJ Big Mat team, which won five stage victories during the 2012 Tour de France.
