Melbourne to Portsea is 185 kilometers of pure riding bliss. Cruising along the coast and over the rolling hills around Mt Martha Esplanade is simply incredible. With heaps of cafes to stop at along the way, this route makes for an amazing day. No doubt you’ll be craving a pot from the Portsea Pub by the time you reach the halfway point. And if you’re feeling fit, why not throw in a rep of the Arthurs Seat climb, made famous by the Herald Sun Tour.

Head along the coast on Beach Road towards Dromana/Sorento and then back. The scenery is spectacular and it is an iconic ride route. There are hundreds of cyclists that take over the road on a weekend. With a lot of bunch rides. There are also many great coffee stops along the route. If heading along Beach road the climb to Arthur’s Seat is a good detour. 3km climb at around 8% is a good workout and there is a spectacular view at the top.
The road between Mornington and Dromana is amazing, Great Views of the Bay and rolling hills!
If you want to do a recovery ride, the 40km Black Rock return is your ride. If a long ride is on the program, keep heading south for a 200km+ Portsea return ride. The rolling hills around the Mt Martha Esplanade is one of my favourite stretches of road. You'll always find a group to tag onto along Beach Road. There is a clear way in the mornings so the cyclists take over one lane of the road, but usually any time of the day there'll be cyclists riding along here. The cars are considerate and cyclist aware, which is awesome. If you want a bit of speed and adrenaline, jump on the back of the ‘North Road Ride’ or the ‘Hell Ride’ and you'll find yourself motoring along in a group of 100+ riders at over 50km/hr.
