One of the wonderful things about Melbourne is that there are plenty of great options for riding within the city. With multiple roads and bike paths to choose from, one can enjoy kilometres of uninterrupted riding close to home. Yarra Blvd is a favourite amongst local riders looking to fit in a quick ride before or after work. A lengthy and undulating road without much traffic, Yarra Blvd can be ridden multiple times at TT or recovery pace. Set in the parklands, you’d be hard pressed to find a more convenient route in any other city. Looking for an extra challenge? Try sprinting up Yarra Street, where the gradient reaches 17%.

Yarra Boulevard is a challenging 13.1 kilometre loop around Kew that has constant rolling hills which result in 220 metres climbed for each lap. It is the perfect circuit to build endurance and strength as there is nowhere to hide. The roads are extremely quiet and the views back over the city are spectacular at sunrise and sunset. For those looking for a bit more of a challenge, you can include some of the side streets including Yarra Street where the gradient reaches 17%.
Only 5 or so kilometres from the CBD, Kew Boulevard offers an undulating 7km road with minimal traffic to test your legs out, whether it be motor pacing, recovery, or training efforts. It is set in parklands, so the ride along is quite scenic also.
