The Greenbelt

Austin trail runners need not travel far to satisfy their thirst for dirt. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a true trail running experience right in the middle of the city. Starting from Zilker Park the main trail extends over 7 miles and there are countless miles of technical side trails into the surrounding hills. The main trail winds alongside the creek and rocky cliffs, through dense forests and crosses the creek a couple of times. You will encounter a lot of mountain bikers and hikers along the way. Because this is an out-and-back trail you can run as long as you want but we like to run up the infamous “Hill of Life”, a rocky 277-foot climb, before heading back. After your run, cool off by taking a dip in the creek or visit the 3-acre, spring-fed, Barton Springs swimming pool in Zilker Park.
